Family History Meeting - July

Our next Family History Group Meeting will be held in the Gordon Library Meeting Rooms on Saturday 6th July. The program for the day's activities follows:

11.00 am      New Zealand resources on the intranet and internet. Pauline Weeks will be in attendance.
 2.00 pm      General Meeting followed by a Members' Forum My latest successful or unsuccessful research

Visitors are welcome to join us for the meeting and afternoon tea.

New Zealand Genealogy

Pauline Weeks, a qualified librarian, has been researching genealogy for 30 years. She is a member of the Society of Australian Genealogists (SAG) and the New Zealand Society of Genealogists (NZSG) and has presented for SAG a number of times on New Zealand genealogy research as part of its education program.

We are fortunate that Pauleen will be joining us as the guest speaker for our Family History Group meeting on this coming Saturday, June 1, at 2:00pm in the Gordon Library Meeting Room adjacent to our Society Rooms at 799 Pacific Highway Gordon.

Visitors are always welcome at these meetings.

At 11:00am on the same day there will be a Family History Workshop at the Society where new internet and intranet reources will be discussed.

Researching NZ Family History

Graham Lewis - Ready to present

Thank you to Graham Lewis, our Society webmaster and Fellow of the Society of Australian Genealogists for delivering a very informative presentation " Researching New Zealand Family History" in our rooms this afternoon.  

Graham who has been researching his family history since the seventies was born and brought up in NZ and has "lots of NZ ancestors". He has gathered many New Zealand family history resources over that time.

Among the things we learnt was a nifty way to narrow down a search to an exact date of birth when using the online New Zealand Birth Index at www.bdm.govt.nz . Graham also demonstrated the value of membership of The New Zealand Society of Genealogists, www.genealogy.org.nz, for those with NZ ancestry.

All members of the small group that attended this event went away with enhanced knowledge to apply to their New Zealand research.
