when John F. Brock presents...
Opening our Speakers Program for 2024, surveyor John F. Brock will relate how the lives of two great Polish patriots – interwoven by adventure and a dedication to democratic liberalism – had a not-so-well-known Australian connection.
When Strzelecki became the first European to reach the top of the highest peak on mainland Australia, his exhilaration conjured up reminiscences of his Polish homeland, to which he would sadly never return alive.
The nostalgic vision of the lofty Kopiec Kościuszki in Krakow (which was a memorial to the great Polish freedom fighter, Tadeusz Kościuszko) came to his mind – compelling him to name this mountain in his honour, in a place of freedom and democracy thousands of miles from their home.
Join us for what is sure to be a fascinating look at two most intriguing Poles, as John F. Brock takes us on a voyage of discovery, up mountains and across the hemispheres.
As always, please keep an eye on our website in case of any last-minute changes.
